How To Make Sausage Rolls 

 

SAUSAGE ROLLS ( makes about 6 large )or (12 small)

Plain Flour - 225g

 

Plain flour (extra for rolling out)

 

Butter - 100g

 

Water - 100ml

 

Pork Sausage Meat (if using frozen take out the day before and let it defrost in fridge) - 350g

 

Onion - 1

 

Egg - 1

 

Milk - As Required   

 

Allergen - 

Cereals containing gluten

Eggs

Milk

Soya

 

Equipment -

2 mixing bowls                Baking tray                      Timer        Pastry brush

Chopping board              Baking paper                   Scales         Rolling pin

Chopping knife               Measuring jug                  knife          Cup

Mixing spoon                  Oven gloves                   Cooling rack    Fork

Before you start wash and dry your hands. Get all your ingredients and equipment ready

First of all make the shortcrust pastry

Shortcrust Pastry

Ingredients

225g Plain flour

100g Butter

100ml Cold water

Method

1. Put flour and butter in a  mixing bowl

2. Rub flour and butter together using finger tips and thumb

3. Add the water a little bit at a time so it all sticks together

4. Use your hands to make the mixture into a ball shape

5. ! Wash and dry your hands

6. Then make the sausage mixture

Method

1. Peel and finely  chop the onion put in mixing bowl

2. Add the sausage meat to the onions and mix together

3. ! Wash and dry your hands after touching raw meat

4. Wipe down your work surface making sure it is dry .Then sprinkle with flour

5.   Roll out the pastry into an rectangle shape 

6.   Spread the sausage meat along the middle of the pastry

7. Crack the egg into a cup add the milk and mix together

8. ! Wash and dry your hands after touching raw eggs

9. Using the pastry brush the egg mixture along the edges of the pastry.

10.                Gently fold the pastry edges  together then  press and seal together (or use a fork)

11. Cut into even portions

12. Place on the greaseproof paper on the baking tray

13. Brush with the remaining egg wash

14. Cook in a hot oven 180c for 25 minutes or until golden brown.

15. ! Hot use oven gloves to take out the oven and leave to cool on the cooling rack.

16. When cool if not eating straight away cover and place in a fridge use them within two days.

17.  Wash up and put everything away
