Macaroni Cheese
Ingredients - 4 servings
250g macaroni
40g butter
40g plain flour
600ml semi skimmed milk
250g cheese
pinch of salt (optional)
Equipment
2 saucepans
scales
1 knife, 1 spoon
1 jug
whisk
ovenproof dish
baking tray
oven gloves
chopping board
colander
kettle
!Before you start, wash and dry your hands. Get all the equipment and ingredients together that you need.
Method
1. Put the macaroni in a large saucepan and cover with boiling water
2. Put the saucepan on the hob at a medium heat add the salt (optional)
3. Cook for 8-10 minutes, once cooked, drain and set aside
4. Melt butter in another saucepan on the hob at a medium heat
5. Add flour to form a smooth paste, cook for 3-4 minutes
6. Whisk in the milk, a little at a time, cook for 10-15 minutes until thickened and the sauce is smooth
7. Remove the sauce from the hob, add half of the cheese and stir until the cheese has melted
8. Add the macaroni to the sauce and mix well. Transfer to the ovenproof dish
9. Sprinkle the remaining cheese on top, place the dish on a baking tray and place in a hot oven at 180c for 30 minutes. Sauce should be bubbling and the cheese brown. HOT! Use oven gloves to take the tray out of the oven
10. If you are not eating it all, let it cool, then cover and put it in the fridge, it will keep for the following day
