    Oliver McGowan Mandatory Training in Learning Disability and Autism Part 2 - Tier 1

     

    Welcome to the Oliver McGowan Mandatory Training in Learning Disability and Autism - Tier 1 virtual learning page. 

    This online course equips health and social care staff, who are not patient or client facing and do not have direct contact with patients or clients, with the necessary knowledge and skills to provide high-quality, person-centred care for individuals with learning disabilities and autism.

    The 60-minute virtual workshop is delivered by a team of expert trainers who also have the unique perspective of being trainers with a learning disability and/or autism and who will share their own stories to bring the content into a lived perspective. This training equips staff with the right knowledge and skills to ensure positive health and social care interactions for people with a Learning Disability and/or Autism.

    What you will Learn

    The one-hour virtual session will cover the following topics:

    • Understanding learning disabilities
    • Understanding autism
    • Reasonable adjustments
    • Self-reflection on attitudes and behaviours
    • Communication
    • Person-centred support
    • Promoting independence
    • Common misconceptions
    • A positive, respectful approach to care

    Duration: 60 minutes


  • This training is for staff working within Adult Social Care: the pre-requisite for attendance on this training is that learners have completed the >Oliver McGowan Mandatory Training in Learning Disability and Autism Part 1  OR Care Certificate Standard 16 - Awareness of Learning Disability and Autism eLearnings  within the past 6 months. 

  • To support this training, if you would like to include a question that will be asked to our experts with lived experience of learning disabilities and/or autism, please forward your question to eryctraining.support@eastriding.gov.uk

    These questions help form the content of the session, so they are important. The questions can be about peoples' work, home, aspirations for the future and/or experiences of using health and care services and reasonable adjustments. You can ask questions during the session, our experts will do their best to answer them.
